How's It Going?: A Practical Guide to Conferring with Student Writers
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (21 February, 2000)
Average review score:

Not just for teachersAs a mother, I really want my child to learn to write so she can enjoy all the benefits that come through written expression. I found this book to be very practical and immensely readable, filled with examples and anecdotes that make the suggestions come alive. A parent could use this book as guidance for inspiring a child's interest in writing -- and in the process, might discover all kinds of things about what the child is thinking and feeling. If you don't read this book yourself, buy it as a gift for your child's teacher! (So much better than bubblebath ...)

The Howling Dog and Other Cases (Einstein Anderson, Science Detective (Paper), No 1)
Published in Paperback by Camelot (November, 1998)
Average review score:

The Mysteries of ScienceThis was a book about the mysteries of science. There are about ten different mysteries that Einstein Anderson has to solve. In one mystery Einstein had to find out how a dog howled. If he solved the mystery, he would get to punch the bully five times! I liked this book because it made learning science fun.

Human Nature: Poems
Published in Paperback by New York University Press (February, 1995)
Average review score:

Beware, all who enter here.Beware, all who enter here. Anderson's remarkable first book, winner of the 1994 Elmer Holmes Bobst Award for Emerging Writers, is like an outcropping of Hell -- the reader is compelled by fascination and horror to keep reading. Dedicated to Sharon Olds, these poems bear her influence: the unflinching look at reality, the rich attention to physical detail, the rush of overwhelming experience, the aesthetic control. The book's last line -- "It's the human's nature to survive -- welcome to the living." -- which also gives the book its grim and hopeful title, celebrates survival. Anderson's life force is implicit in the language throughout these poems, objective, exact, charged with an emotional force given only to those who have been to hell and returned to tell the tale. -- Publishers Weekly (starred review)

A cross-section of wartime opinions and experiences.A dozen biographies of those opposed to or affected by Vietnam serve as the foundation for revealing how individuals were influenced by events of the times. Human Tradition in the Vietnam Era goes beyond most Vietnam books to provide a cross-section of opinions and experiences documenting the lasting effects of the war.

HYPNOSIS: JOURNEY INTO THE MIND
Published in Paperback by Arco Pub (February, 1984)
Average review score:

Hypnosis A Journey Into The MindA great concise handbook on therapeutic hypnosis. Has case histories and anecdotes. Covers reframing, metaphors in suggestions, anchoring and imprinting plus psychosomatic illness, smoking and alcoholism. I was surprise to find alcoholism because most hypnosis books leave it out. I found this book at an estate sale and it appears that it has not been reprinted. Anita also goes into synchronicity and ESP. This book is a real gem.

Excellent Christian Use of Alphabet for Kids!I Can! ABC has been a wonderful introduction to the alphabet for my toddler. The pictures are fun for him and he's been able to memorize and "read" the book, one of his favorites.

I Gave God Time
Published in Paperback by Tyndale House Pub (June, 1985)
Average review score:

Gave me hope.Very inspiring, about the "right" relationship with Jesus (we don't need more money, etc, but more of HIM) and that God will send MY right man someday if I wait on him. I'm 28, I think Ann said she was 36. I hope I don't have to wait too much longer but we'll see, won't we. God's timing is perfect and he works in ways WE certainly don't understand. Thanks Ann. I'm looking for more of your books but after checking at bookstores they're out of print. Written any new ones? What are you doing now? How's Will? I really loved your book and still have notes I took which I hold very dear. Made me feel like I knew you personally. Thanks again. If anybody is looking for guidance and direction as a single woman in your walk with God and wondering if there is a man out there for you, please read Ann's book. You'll be blessed.

I Heard of a Nerd Bird
Published in Hardcover by Gary Hogg (December, 1991)
Average review score:

This book is awesome! As a teacher of 8th graders, I read this book every year on the last day of school. It talks about the courage to be who you are and not to conform to those around you. It has an outstanding message for kids of any age. Adults should keep a copy in their desk drawer and read it as they think about taking risks and making a difference in the world. It's great.

I Know the Moon
Published in School & Library Binding by Philomel Books (March, 2001)
Average review score:

I know the moonThis is a beautiful story about reconciling different creative interpretations of something. The animal characters have differing opinions about what the moon is made of, and when they cannot agree they ask a scientist. His answer is unsatisfactory and disillusioning, but the animals continue to have faith in their beliefs, this time without antagonism for the others. I loved it because it uses beautiful metaphors and shows the value in upholding your own interpretation of the world--the illustrations are some of the best I've seen and are the true crowning glory of the book.
